The Oak Grove Heritage Committee was established in 2002 to oversee the renovation of The Oak Grove Rosenwald School and maintain the upkeep of the school with small grants and donations. Unfortunately, after all the small grants were exhausted and donations stopped coming in, the committee members were unable to continue the project and the school was abandoned.
The goal is to restore the school to serve as a multipurpose community center and museum for the Oak Grove and surrounding communities.
The Alabama Bureau of Tourism and Travel added The Oak Grove School as an attraction, but later was removed due to the community’s inability to make renovations. It is our intent to place the school back on the Alabama Bureau of Tourism’s list once the renovations are complete. This will allow people from all walks of life to visit The Oak Grove School to learn about its history and heritage.
